Reconnexion (formerly TRANX) is a not for profit organisation co-founded by Lis Burtnik and Gwenda Cannard in 1986 to provide counselling and support for people dependent on tranquillisers (benzodiazepines) and to raise awareness of the risk of dependency associated with long term prescribing of benzodiazepines. The benzodiazepine program actively promotes understanding and awareness of the complications associated with long term use of benzodiazepines to the medical profession, government and in the community.

Department of Human Services funding to conduct the service in Victoria was achieved after six months of operation.

Reconnexion is the only organisation in Australia providing expertise specifically in benzodiazepine use and dependency.

In 1997 a counselling treatment service was initiated for people experiencing anxiety disorders. In 2003 this service was extended to provide psychological treatment for depression. Formerly called PADA , this program provides counselling treatment by psychologists, who have specific expertise in the treatment of anxiety disorders and depression.

The service was re-named Reconnexion in April 2007. Our motto is "Reconnect With Life!"

Training and education programs have been developed and provided to health practitioners, and we hold an annual National Conference on Anxiety & Depression. A range of resources including CD’s, books, Fact Sheets and service brochures has been created and are distributed throughout Australia.

Reconnexion has a competent and internationally recognised quality management system as approved by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance.
